The next three R.E.M.O.T.E. actions have to do with taking care of you. If you do not make time for yourself, then gradually you will find your focus, efficiency and energy levels minimized. As a leader, you can not manage for that to take place; there are too many individuals relying on you to continue to perform. Finding chance begins with challenging yourself to find out and develop. When you challenge yourself to do something brand-new, you naturally start your interest engine. Your mind is more open to possibilities, and you will find yourself seeing through the fog of uncertainty. Here’s a quick “sea story” to help inspire you to welcome seeking your Opportunity while working from another location. As a young Navy SEAL squad commander, I was ordered to invest an uncommon quantity of time on a submarine: thirty days.(We frequently dealt with submarines, but we try to restrict our time on them since of area and physical training functions.)To state that much of my colleagues were not delighted about our approaching submarine trip would be an understatement. They called the senior officer’s order a “sentencing,” as if we were being incarcerated in a jail underwater, which thinking back on it, was not far from the reality.
Knowing that my submarine quarantine was going to provide me with great deals of downtime, I challenged myself to do 2 things: create and learn. Particularly, I committed to developing a brand-new item every day for one month on a sketch pad. My other daily commitment was discovering to how to type, with a goal of reaching 100 words per minute. I bought the least expensive laptop computer I might discover and uploaded it with a typing program. Developing products was an individual enthusiasm of mine, however I had never ever truly practiced the art of thinking up new ideas, and I understood typing was not so much difficult as it simply required focused practice. With those two objectives in mind, I actually discovered myself looking forward to starting our submarine “getaway.”

Close Quarters, Part 3 Our undersea journey got extended a few times, and prior to we knew it we had invested much longer than thirty days on the submarine. Think what else occurred? I had actually produced a day-to-day routine Because developing and typing were essential to my individual advancement, that I looked forward to taking part in. I was challenging myself to invent new widgets and to type quicker, and I could see my development from day to
day, that made me feel great about myself. When you are operating from another location or in close quarters (or both as we were on the submarine), you will have more time than you are usually accustomed to– do not waste it. It’s a chance if you choose to embrace it, and I am grateful I did. A couple of years later I created the Perfect Pushup (I hold more than 40 patents today) and have written two books. The skills I discovered while working remotely transformed my life, and they can change yours (and your service’s) so long as you devote to working on them daily.
There is another advantage that occurs when you begin taking advantage of your additional time to improve yourself: Your teammates notice. They might not all follow your lead, however lots of will. Your commitment will rub off on them. It provides you another measurement to talk about throughout your company calls (i.e. updates on chance time anybody?), and most significantly, keeps you mentally and emotionally engaged when the regular ends up being … well … too regular.

Any entrepreneur will tell you the most amazing aspect of entrepreneurship is your company depends on you. That is likewise the most difficult part. The same applies to maximizing your time remotely. Keep your concentrate on looking for opportunities during unpredictability. I guarantee you, you will be delighted you did.
Stay tuned for action five of R.E.M.O.T.E. and in the meantime, remain safe, be well and accept the challenge to produce Opportunities!
