Friday, an app aiming to make remote work more efficient, has announced the close of a$ 2.1 million seed round led by Bessemer Endeavor Partners. Active Capital, Underscore, El Cap Holdings, TLC Collective and New York Venture Partners likewise participated in the round, to name a few.

Established by Luke Thomas, Friday sits on top of the tools that teams currently utilize– GitHub, Trello, Asana, Slack, etc.– to emerge details that employees need when they require it and keep them on top of what others in the organization are doing.

The platform offers an Everyday Coordinator feature, so users can roadmap their day and share it with others, in addition to a Work Routines feature, offering users the capability to customize and even automate regular updates. Everyday standups or weekly updates done through Slack or Google Hangouts can be done through Friday app, getting rid of the time invested by supervisors, or others, jotting down these updates or copying that info over from Slack.

Friday likewise lets users set goals across the company or team so that users’ weekly and daily work lines up with the wider OKRs of the company.

Plus, Friday users can track their time spent in conferences, in addition to group morale and performance, utilizing the Analytics control panel of the platform.

Friday has a free-forever model, which enables individual users and even companies to utilize the app for free for as long as they want. Advanced functions like Objectives, Analytics and the ability to see past 3 weeks of history within the app are paywalled for a rate of $6/seat/month.

Thomas says that one of the biggest challenges for Friday is that individuals automatically assume it’s competing with an Asana or Trello, instead of being a layer on top of these items that brings all that info into one location.

“The primary issue is that we remain in a noisy area,” said Thomas. “There are a great deal of tools that are saying they’re a remote work tool when they’re actually just a layer on top of Zoom or a video conferencing tool. There is definitely increased quantity of interest in the space in a favorable and excellent way, but it also suggests that we need to work more difficult to cut through the sound.”

The Friday group is small in the meantime– four full-time staff members– and Thomas states that he prepares to double the size of the group following the seed round. Thomas decreased to share any details around the variety breakdown of the team.

Following a beta launch at the beginning of 2020, Friday states it is utilized by workers at organizations such as Twitter, LinkedIn, Quizlet, Red Hat and EA, among others.

This newest round brings the business’s total funding to $2.5 million.
