Michelle Davey’s pitch to Jordan Nof of Tusk Venture Partners about Wheel, a start-up concentrated on providing a complete suite of virtual care solutions to clinicians, was front-loaded with early metrics. It might not be basic practice to start with the numbers, specifically early on, but she discussed to us why she selected that method– and Nof told us why it worked.

Davey and Nof joined us on a recent episode of Additional Crunch Live and went into detail on why Tusk aspired to finance Wheel, walking us through the startup’s Series A pitch deck and sharing which bits and slides clinched the offer.

When to lead with traction

Davey emphasized the significance of not staying with a stiff format for building a pitch deck. She said it is very important to instead focus on crafting your pitch around what makes you appealing and distinct. That must be on the foreground and featured prominently.

For Wheel, that suggested leading with traction, since the company had outstanding uptake even early on. That stayed true for their current Series B raise, too.
